Director of Technology

Redeemer Lutheran Church and School

Classification: Full-Time

Reports To: Executive Director of Operations (EDO)

Direct Reports: Lay A/V Operators

I. OVERVIEW

The Director of Technology manages Redeemer's IT and device infrastructure, keeping computers, student devices, cloud-based systems, and sanctuary A/V and video systems running reliably. This role owns Redeemer's Technology Plan, ensuring equipment is properly maintained and replaced on a timely cycle through sound fiscal management.

II. JOB SUMMARY

Technology touches nearly every part of Redeemer's ministry operations, from a teacher's classroom device to the livestream of Sunday worship. The Director of Technology is responsible for making sure all of it works — proactively maintaining infrastructure, supporting staff and students, and producing excellent worship technology — while managing a disciplined, budget-conscious replacement plan so equipment failures don't become financial or ministry emergencies.

III. CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

A. Infrastructure & Device Management

  • Network Reliability: Maintain the network, servers, computers, and cloud-based systems used across the campus for consistent, dependable staff and student access.
  • Device Support: Oversee deployment, maintenance, and troubleshooting of student and staff devices.
  • Cybersecurity: Implement data protection and filtering protocols to safeguard staff and student information from digital threats.

B. Worship & Production Technology

  • AVL Management: Manage the sanctuary's Audio/Visual/Lighting and video systems for services, livestreams, and special events.
  • Worship Coordination: Coordinate with the Director of Worship to ensure technical excellence and readiness ahead of every service.
  • Member Support: Recruit, train, and support lay A/V operators to ensure reliable technical coverage across services and events.

C. Technology Plan & Fiscal Stewardship

  • Lifecycle Planning: Maintain and execute Redeemer's Technology Plan — a proactive maintenance and replacement schedule for IT, device, and AVL equipment.
  • Budget Management: Manage the technology budget and replacement cycle to avoid unbudgeted "shock" purchases, escalating major capital needs to the EDO in advance.
  • Vendor Coordination: Coordinate technology-related vendor agreements and service, with the EDO retaining ownership of contract terms and financials.

D. Compliance & Data Protection

  • Data Backup: Ensure all digital data is backed up and handled in compliance with student privacy laws and church data policies.

IV. QUALIFICATIONS

  • Spiritual Life & Membership: An active member in good standing of Redeemer Lutheran Church, modeling a faithful worship life; understanding, honoring, and acting in accordance with Holy Scripture and the Lutheran Confessions as defined in Article 3 of the Redeemer Constitution.
  • Education: Degree in Information Technology or equivalent certifications (CompTIA, Network+, etc.).
  • Experience: Demonstrated experience managing IT infrastructure, device fleets, and cloud-based systems; experience with live-production AVL for worship or events preferred.
  • Skills: Proficient with Google Workspace, church/school management software, and standard network/device management tools.
