In ministry since 1955, Redeemer is a Christ-centered community sharing God’s love. Redeemer is uniquely located and staffed to offer many opportunities for ministry and serving. If you would like to know more about our church and school, we would like to meet you and give you information about the Redeemer community. Please take a few moments to fill in the gold visitor card located in the pew rack and hand it to an usher. Also, introduce yourself to those around you.

GIRLS’ SLEEP OVER at Ms. K’s, June 18-19, 6:00 p.m.-10:00 a.m. Sign up in the Youth Folder or contact Ms. K.

WOMEN ON WEDNESDAY (WOW). At the next meeting of WOW on June 18, 6:00 p.m. in Albracht Hall, we will have a Bible study led by Karen Schlamp, discuss the LWML District Convention (September) and Women of Faith (November) spiritual growth events, and put together more health kits for Lutheran World Relief. Items needed for the kits:

hand towels (dark colors recommended)                            wrapped soap (4-5 oz. bars)

new adult-size toothbrushes (in wrappers)                          wide-tooth combs

metal nail files or nail clippers with the file attached

Donations can be brought to the church office. Monetary donations are also welcome to help cover postage and any additional purchases necessary to complete the kits. Checks should be payable to “Redeemer Lutheran Church” and be designated to “WOW/LWR.”

THURSDAY NIGHT CHILL OUT starts on June 19, 6:00-7:30 p.m. Red Folk (senior high youth), meet up at Barnes and Noble in Jensen Beach to hang out and chill out from summer’s heat. We will be having a conversational devotion guided by Ms. K.

SPECIAL BENEFIT. There will be a benefit for Scott, Jill, and Chase Junck (Matt Grubb’s toddler cousin recently injured) on Saturday, June 21, at the church Jill (and Matt, too) grew up in. Thrivent is matching the funds raised. If you feel God leading you to help the family financially, you can mail a check payable to “Thrivent Financial for Lutherans” to Immanuel Lutheran Church, 500 South Center Street, Tilden, Nebraska 68781. Matt’s mother is the secretary there and should be able to figure out what it is for, but it would help if you would mark in the memo section that it is for Chase. Your prayers mean so much. It is such a blessing that Christians would pray for someone they have never met and probably never will. Crislyn and Matt Grubb

OUR THRIVENT BUILDS Habitat for Humanity site in Port St. Lucie is in need of more volunteers and would like you to RSVP the dates you could possibly help. Contact Ed Coombs at 334-5827 or klcelc@yahoo.com to say you can help! Upcoming “special theme Saturdays” are: June 21-Couples Day, July 19-Ladies Day, and August 2-Financial Rep Day. But helpers are needed on all days, not just weekends!

JUNIOR REDS AND RED FOLK Summer Fun Days will start on Tuesday, June 24, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. To find out the summer events and details, contact Ms. K and keep reading the yellow pages for weekly updates.

HABITAT BUILD. Youth, please sign up in the Youth Folder for the Thrivent Habitat project on June 28, 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Ms. K will be calling you with details after you have signed up.

CONCERT. On Sunday, June 29, at 6:00 p.m. the Avenue D Boys Choir will perform at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, 295 NW Prima Vista Boulevard, Port St. Lucie. SUMMER WATER PARK TRIP! Sign-up has begun for this summer’s water park trip to Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach on Saturday, July 26. Sign up in the Youth Folder.

MS. K is updating the youth contact list. If you are not on the e-mail list to receive event updates, little pick-me-ups, and useful information, please e-mail her at bklosowski@redeemerstuart.com to be added.

DO YOU NEED spiritual energy? In a slump? It’s time to fast and pray before the Lord! I appeal to you therefore, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. (Romans 12:1) On Saturday, July 26, from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the sanctuary, join us for an hour or two or twelve for prayer and fasting. What will you sacrifice for the Lord—food, TV, golf, the Internet, boating? Fast for 12 hours or more! Call Dennis Tonniges (283-6301) or Pete Savage (336-5317) for more information. Please submit your prayer requests on prayer request cards (located in the pew racks) and also indicate what you are giving up; cards can be turned in to an usher or the church office.

THRIVENT BUILDS WORLDWIDE. Join Thrivent Financial members and other Lutherans and volunteers to help build a home with a partner family in need of simple, decent, affordable housing. If you are a member of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, you will receive a discount on trip costs. A donation also will be made to the Habitat for Humanity host program on behalf of members who participate in the volunteer work trip. Two trip opportunities are available: El Salvador (August 2-10) and Biloxi, Mississippi (October 6-11). For more information, visit lutheransonline.com/rfo190 or thriventbuilds.com/worldwide or contact John Schultz at john.schultz@thrivent.com or 877-682-0370.

ADDRESSES NEEDED. If you have addresses of former members, please call, e-mail, or mail them to Mitzi in the church office so the 50th Anniversary Committee can send them invitations to our celebration in October. Thank you!

HELP MAKE A HOME. Redeemer and other churches, along with Thrivent Financial for Lutherans Martin/St. Lucie Chapter, are helping construct a home in Port St. Lucie in cooperation with Habitat for Humanity. Our Redeemer family is not only invited to help build the home but also to participate in a “Shower of Love” for the new homeowner and her family. Anyone wishing to donate items for the family’s new kitchen, bathroom, or laundry room can bring the items to the church or school office—paper towels, toilet tissue, facial tissues, dish soap, laundry soap, and cleaning supplies are just a few ideas. Thank you for helping us to make this house a home!

A WONDERFUL DONOR has once again challenged the Redeemer family with a $10,000 donation as matching funds if we can raise $10,000 to match it in 2008 for the Educational Assistance Fund. The Fund is distributed by the Tuition Assistance Committee, which gives parents tuition help so they can send their students to Redeemer Lutheran School. A white envelope labeled “Educational Assistance” (found in the church and school offices or at the table at the back of the church) can be used for making your donation. For more information, contact Principal Johnny Goetz at 286-0932. (P.S. to Thrivent members: Don’t forget to also fill out a matching funds form with your donation so that your gift can also be matched by Thrivent! Forms are available in the church and school offices. Just be sure your check is made payable to “Redeemer Lutheran School,” not to the church, to qualify for the match.)

THE CHURCH COUNCIL, at their June 3 meeting, unanimously recommended that special recognition of our quilters be acknowledged. It was a special moment in our Sunday service when their works of art were displayed and Pastor Dave announced that each high school graduate would receive a quilt of their own created by Redeemer’s Quilters. They have done similar deeds in the past for confirmands, baptisms, Care Net, other high school graduates, and school auctions and are an example of Redeemer’s compassionate and inspiring ministries. The caring quilters are Kathy Barger, Mary File, Jan Hanssen, Alma Keeling, Denise McLendon, Pearl Peterson, Trudy Remelius, Margrethe Thayer (deceased April 22, 2008), and Aida Viotti. A brick commemorating their good works will be placed in our Memorial Plaza. It’s good that their work will truly be remembered by all.

REDEEMER’S 50TH ANNIVERSARY dinner is set for October! To keep expenses down, the committee would like you to consider making a donation of any size to their Wish List of items for the following expenses:

Invitations (paper and envelopes for doing in-house)                                            $500.00

14 rolls of stamps                                                                                              588.00

Pastor Zehnder’s expenses (airfare and lodging)                                                   500.00

Decorations                                                                                                      400.00

Round tablecloths (approximately 25 needed at $20 each)                                      500.00

The committee has been working hard to make this a great celebration for all the families and friends of Redeemer over the past years as well as our members today. Please place your gift in an envelope, designate it to the “50th Anniversary,” and drop it in the offering plate or deliver it to the church office. If you have any questions, please call Sally Hellyer (263-2312).

SOME OF YOU may have already noticed the new addition to the music area in the church. Heartfelt thanks to the Morris family for their generous donation of the grand piano to Redeemer. This beautiful instrument was built in 1919 and recently rebuilt. We look forward to many years of praising God with our new piano.

BETHEL LUTHERAN CHURCH, one of our daughter congregations, is seeking a Preschool Director for a large, fully accredited program. The qualified candidate needs to have a Florida Child Care and Education Program Director credential, 5-years’ work experience in early childhood education, and be able to work with both the church and preschool. A Lutheran with solid management skills and a passion for the Gospel is preferred. Send resumé to Ms. Sandra Frazier, P. O. Box 8552, Hobe Sound, Florida 33475-8552.
