Many people talk about how busy they are from Thanksgiving to Christmas. Here at Redeemer, we are REALLY busy at this time of year as well. Last Friday we had the rootin’ tootin’ Chili Cook-Off. School parent, Tim Wadsworth, took first prize in the competition. Fasten your seatbelts—we’re in March! The weather did not cooperate for our Open House event this past Tuesday, but we enjoyed meeting with the few families that visited and took tours. We thank God that our enrollment for 2010-2011 is steadily climbing. This coming week is National Lutheran Schools Week. Here is a preview of coming attractions. Monday: Students may dress in ‘50’s clothes or in their school uniforms. (Don’t buy anything special for these dress-up days.) At 9:00 we will all gather in the gym as Ms. Bakkelund leads songs and a short message. The Bible passage for the day is 1 Corinthians 12:4-6, which reads, “There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men.” As their activity of the day, each student will write an acrostic poem on a provided hand print-out provided by the school. The 7th graders will hang all the completed hands in the church on Tuesday. The teachers will compete as they make their favorite baked bean and potato dishes for the Book Fair Barbecue, to which all families are invited. Tuesday: Students may coordinate with a friend or sibling and dress as twins (no triplets or quadruplets please). Ms. Bittenbender will lead songs and a short message in the gym at 9:00. The Bible passage for the day is Galatians 5:13, which reads, “You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love.” The students will make “hearts of serving” for display on the breezeway bulletin board. The staff will also dress as twins. Wednesday: Students are asked to dress up in their “Sunday best.” Mr. Essig will lead a whole-group chapel service at 8:45 in the church. The Bible passage for the day is Matthew 20:28, which reads, “Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Using various colors of construction paper, students will create placemats with messages of God’s love. These placemats will be given to “Meals on Wheels” to be delivered to shut-ins. Thursday: This is “crazy hat and sock day.” Mrs. Planker will lead songs and a short message in the gym at 9:00. The Bible passage for the day is Colossians 2:6-7, which reads, “So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in Him, rooted and built up in Him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.” The students will demonstrate care for God’s creation by participating in various campus beautification projects during the day. Friday: Students are asked to wear their “Rams Rock” T-shirts and athletic shorts. Ms. Bakkelund will start our day with devotions at the flagpole at 8:45. The 8th graders will lead the prayer. The Bible passage for the day is Joshua 24:15, which reads, “But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the river, or the gods of the Amorites, in whole land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” The students will participate in a fun-filled field day. At lunchtime, the various departments of the faculty will entertain the students in the gym.
Sunday, March 14: (Remember to set your clocks ahead one hour.) All students are asked to sing our two lively songs, “It’s a Great Day” and “Blessed Be” during the 11:00 a.m. service. The children can sit with you parents and then come forward as we call them to the chancel to sing.
The hugely popular Redeemer Variety Show will be held on Friday, March 26. Patty Loveland is coordinating this entertainment extravaganza. We just sent home the Ram-a-Thon packets. Please read through the materials and encourage your child to help the school raise some money through this vital effort. Our actual Ram-a-Thon walk will take place on March 31, weather permitting. April 23 is the rain-out date. March 31 will be a full day of school, and extended care will be open that day.
