Redeemer Lutheran School
In the mid-60s, a kindergarten program was established under the direction of Mrs. Eddie Lee Smith. Since that time it has been an active part of life of the congregation and has played a special role in the development of early childhood education in the community.
In 1978 the congregation established a Lutheran parochial school as an outreach to the community. In September 1979, Redeemer Lutheran School opened the doors of its new school building to children in pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, and grades 1-3. Grades 4-8 were added in subsequent years, and the first 8th grade class was graduated in 1983. In 2001, the two-year-old Class was added and in 2011 a 12 month old program began.
(Lutheran Women’s Missionary League) is committed to mite giving; Bible study; praying; singing the Lord’s praises; spiritual inspiration and growth from meetings and reading the Quarterlies/Evangels; attending rallies, conventions, and retreats for even more spiritual growth and service opportunities; and joining together for fellowship, inspiration, and support. Many local, national, and international mission grants are funded through the group’s mites and home mission offerings. Meetings are generally held September through May on the second Saturday in Albracht Hall from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. (unless otherwise noted in the Sunday bulletins) with refreshments, a devotion, a Bible study or a speaker presentation, and a short business meeting to share news and mission service opportunities. Contact Marie Shelton (229-7824) for more information.
(Women on Wednesday) meets on the first and third Wednesdays of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the Conference Room unless otherwise noted in the yellow pages. The goals are Bible study, fellowship, and mission service. Past service projects include Lutheran World Relief health kits, school supply kits for local elementary schools, support for a seminarian, supplies for Haiti, and collections of items for the local women’s shelter. The ladies have enjoyed a Christian comedy night, chocolate Bible studies, an Oktoberfest, and Advent by Candlelight. Contact Jill Albers (692-5107) or email email@example.com for details.
The Altar Guild
Assists in creating and maintaining a climate of worship for the congregation and is responsible for the care of the chancel and its furnishings, communion ware, and linens. Four women per month prepare the church each Saturday for the worship service and clean up after the services on Sundays. They also decorate the chancel according to the church seasons. Contact Ginny Moore (287-4421) to help out.
The quilters meet every Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. in Albracht Hall to make and tie quilts mostly for missions. The quilts have been sent overseas through Lutheran World Relief as well as given to Care Net, MISS, SafeSpace, and Redeemer’s high school graduates. The group also makes the special quilts for the annual school auction and Angel Baby clothing for local hospitals to give away for stillborn and preemie babies. Contact Trudy Remelius (283-1073), Kathy Barger (337-1155), and Jan Hanssen (219-8908) for more information.
Heart Lifters meet to make, write, and send encouraging cards to shut-ins, people on the prayer chain, and others. Each card is different and unique to its maker and usually contains a personal note. The group usually meets on a Saturday morning once a month. Contact Sally Hellyer (772-263-2312) to join in a session or to assist.
Praying Hands and Hearts
This dedicated group of knitters and crocheters, also know as our Shawl Ministry, makes baby blankets, baby items, prayer shawls, and other needed items for hospitals, shut-ins, nursing homes, Hospice, and others who need to be wrapped in God’s love and grace. Most ladies work at home, but the group occasionally meets for fellowship and devotions. Call Hannelore Hettig (692-1090) to get started.
